The sun was beginning to rise as Eric and I headed down the trail through the woods. Every few yards we would were blowing the crow call trying to locate some gobblers. We didn't have any responses to our cawing as we went through the woods and passed our first open field. As we headed deeper into our hunting area we still didn't have any gobblers answering our calls. Fearing we were in for a long morning we headed toward grandpa's watermelon field. As we rounded the first bend we were excited to here some gobblers respond. Eric used the box call and the turkeys seemed to be coming our way. We setup in the midst of some plum thickets and quickly setup our decoy. Just as we set our selves up the four tom's showed themselves. The four turkeys strutted there way right to us in no time at all. Eric calmly set the sights of his 20 guage Mossberg on the leader and put a good shot on him. The tom had a five inch beard and weighed 15 pounds. I was a proud Daddy. He did a real good job.
